our new adventure begins

So here's the story: We were scheduled to be induced Wednesday, the 13th at 5am. We talked to the hospital Tuesday night and they said they wouldnt be quite ready for us at 5 so they would give us a call. We excitedly woke up at 5am anyway. We got dressed, watched a movie and still had heard nothing. Several hours later we decided to pack our hospital bags and car seat in the car and go for a little drive to get a calling card to call grandma Villatoro. We got the card, stopped by the grocery store and still had heard nothing so we headed back home. We watched another movie, I took a nap, Jeber took a several hour nap, I updated this blog, we watched tv...........and finally at 4:30pm, after Jeber missing the whole day of work and my being completely anxious to meet the newest member of our family, we got the call from the hospital that they were finally ready for us. We got there about 5pm, 12 hours after when we had originally expected. They started my IV and got the pitcoin going. I was dilated 4cm and the cervix had thinned out quite a lot. The nurses were amazed at how active baby was inside of my tummy (I had gotten pretty used to it after 9months). Baby's heart rate was getting pretty fast and so they turned off the pitocin for a little while to calm him down a little bit. After waiting a little bit to get him calmed down and his heart rate back to normal, they got the pitocin cranking again and got the contractions growing. After a few hours I was still dilated 4cm. As the contractions got stronger and closer together I tried sitting on the birthing ball--still not sure if I think it was helpful or not. At about 11:45pm, after much conflict with myself, I finally gave in to the pain and asked for an epidural. I got the epidural about midnight and promptly started balling---I guess I was just a little emotional and kind of felt like a quitter for asking for the epidural. I tried to sleep for a little while. I was exhausted from it being way past my bedtime, not getting a lot of sleep the nights before because I was so anxious, and then from dealing with the contractions. I slept off and on and then woke up at about 4am, just in time to start pushing. The first push exploded the bag of waters and sent it shooting out--gross. The contractions were not very close together, like a few minutes apart, but after about just an hour of pushing, he was here! The nurse saw his head pretty early on in the pushing and could see that he had a lot of dark hair. When his had started crowning and we were waiting for the next contraction, the doctor played with his long hair and tried styling it, getting him ready for his big debut. And then two big pushes and he was out. And then we heard the beautiful sound of his high-pitched, squealing cry. It was VERY cute to hear him. Picture of said cry: Daddy got to cut the umbilical cord, they wiped him down just a little bit, and then handed him off to me.

Me with my baby........finally.

Daddy with his new best friend. Look how proud!

My mom had not planned on staying in for the birth but as it got time to push I asked her if she was staying and she said, "If I be really quiet?" So grandma got to stay in because she promised to be quiet ( : She held her breath and pushed with me during every contraction (not for support because I didn't know she was doing that, just because....well I have no idea why she did that)
Daddy and the AWESOME nurse giving baby his first bath.

Freshly bathed with his combed and parted missionary hair getting dressed for the first time:

Daddy checking out his new pal in the heater.
Proud papa playing with his baby's long feet and toes.

Our first family picture later that day:

First diaper change. Yep---daddy changed all of baby's diapers for the first couple of days. I changed it for the first time Friday night. During this diaper change, baby decided that he was not done and shot out some more. It went flying.--That's the little black gunk on the blanket in front of Jeber ( :

Chillin in his first bed:

Disgusting picture of me--sorry--but i just had a baby. Friday at about 2pm we are ready to go home.

Getting used to his new home outside of mommy, spending time with his dad, and posing for the camera:

His first time in the swing wasn't so successful. He moves a lot and the first time we put him in this he turned himself completely sideways and was not happy. So this is a picture of his first time being happy in the swing, this morning while we ate breakfast.
Our first night home went pretty good. We are getting the hang of feeding a lot better now after a slow start. His black tar poo is finally becoming normal. We have been getting to know each other better and have had a few visitors today on our first full day home together. We are loving him too much already. Oh my gosh, what a handsome, sweet baby we are lucky to have!
