Just in the past few weeks, little one has been becoming very independent:
He wants to pour the juice into his cup.
He has to buckle himself into his car seat
He likes to pick out which shoes he wears and often has an opinion on what shoes mom and dad wear
A lot of the time he doesnt like when I break or tear his food into smaller pieces--it makes him cry, he tries to put it back together, and then wont eat it if it isn't whole.
He has started telling me just in the last couple of weeks of June when he has a poopy diaper by pointing to it and saying poop.
Likes to hold mom and dad's hands to pull them to wherever he wants us to go
He has been doing awesome in nursery--not crying when I drop him off or when Jeber takes him back in after changing a dirty diaper. It only took two months (:
He loves the Madagascar movies and calls them "move it, move it"
Has been sticking his hand down his diaper which has resulted in some fun messes---on his hand, on the carpet. I often have to make sure he is wearing a onesie or something like that so he can't get to his diaper. For a while he would put his hand in his diaper and then take his hand out and inspect it to make sure there was no poop on it, but now that he has gotten smart enough to know when he has pooped, he knows when it it safe to put his hand in.
He loves animals--looking at pictures, touching them, playing with toy animals, pointing out different animals, etc. and has recently been playing with dinosaurs too.
Loves playing with legos and in water and with magnets.
He is mimicking words we say more and more.
Words he says (at least the ones that I can think of at the moment): cookie, mommy and daddy (he sometimes uses these interchangeably or just in general when he wants something), pa (grandpa), ball, where are you, shoe, cheese, juice, night night, amen, bye, see ya, elmo, Parley (it sounds more like party though), agua, book, apple (pretty much any fruit is apple), cool, door, car, sun, star, bug (he is loving bugs right now but that pretty much means squishing them with his hand), dog, baby, poop, zebra, cow, neigh (that's what he calls horses), fly (butterfly), bear (it doesn't sound quite like that but he gets his point across), mess, oh no, oh man, toes, choo choo, go, thank you....and there are a few more
He is a pain to get asleep for a nap. Scratch that--he is a pain to get asleep period. For naps, I usually resort to a car ride or pushing him in the stroller to get him asleep.
Loves corn tortilla quesedillas and goes through phases of liking certain fruit--first grapes, for a few days it was whole apples, then pears, strawberries.....
Pretty picky eater and knows what he wants!
What we were up to this month:
Little one and I have been figuring out how to be a stay-at-home pair. We are both used to leaving the house daily and so we have been doing some adjusting this summer. I try to think of fun ways to keep us busy. So, we made a little fort and he had lots of fun hanging out underneath it.
In anticipation of our growing family, we bought a king bed and so did a little rearranging of rooms and furniture and such. We moved the computer desk into the living room and he has enjoyed taking little breaks to watch a show on the computer while eating a snack.
Or watching an Elmo music video while he colors.
We went to our niece's baby blessing and little one got to go to nursery with his cousin--he did great especially considering they were all strangers except for his one cousing.
We tried a fun science experiment: We dropped little spoonfuls of vinegar with food coloring onto baking soda and watched the colors fizz.
Jeber has been crazy busy at work and worked Monday-Saturday one week for the company. The day before father's day we got to meet him for lunch in Chandler.
We celebrated father's day by making dad breakfast, going to church, and then relaxing at home.
One of Jeber's Christmas gifts to me this past Christmas was a gift certificate to a nail salon. With quite a few social events coming up and it becoming more and more uncomfortable to paint my nails myself I decided it was time to use the certificate. While little one played with grandma, I got my first ever pedicure and second ever manicure. I loved having my nails look so cute.
We went to the park to feed the ducks--no picture of that part of the trip because I was busy keeping him out of the water. He was literally trying to climb into the water with the ducks and chasing the ducks that were on land to try to hit them. We did manage to throw some popcorn into the water for the ducks (he didn't try to eat all the popcorn like last time). I let him play on the playground for a few minutes which consisted of him running up and down this ramp pretty much the entire time. And then we remembered it was hot so we left.
Little one has been having fun playing with this collander and pipe cleaners---sticking them in and pulling them out of the holes---pinterest idea.
I got to go to Rachel's baby shower. Grandma was hilarious with one hand on each of our bellies comparing the two. Then Jeber and I ran to try to find some dress shoes for little one since his were getting tight on his little foot. We have decided that shoe shopping for him is not very fun because it is so hard to find cute shoes that don't cost a ton--especially considering that we dont want lights or Cookie Monster on his shoes. Then we ran home to get ready for C's baptism. It was a busy day.
The last Friday of the month we went to the mall and Jeber let handsome play in the splashpad--let's just say that we are not going to have to worry about little one getting picked on. There are only like 2 fountains that squirt up at any given time so when an older boy was wasting one of those fountains by sitting on it and preventing any water from coming out that baby could play in time after time, baby would go push him or hit him to get off so they could play in the water. Later that night, Jeber's company had an employee pool party at the Brimhall pool. Jeber dove for money and found $10, little one had tons of fun in the kiddie pool that he could stand in, and I had fun being in public in a swimsuit when like 34 weeks pregnant (: .
We decided last minute to get a hotel room in downtown so that we would have a good view of the fireworks and be close to all the downtown activities. We checked in around 5:30 after handsome finally woke up from a nap, he had tons of fun in the bath tub while daddy took a shower, then we went to eat at Mango's. There was a little band performing righ toutside of the restaraunt so while I waited for the food, Daddy and handsome went outside to watch the festivities. Jeber said handsome was dancing like crazy and the singer even pointed him out to everyone around. When they would clap he would put his cookie on the street so that he would have both hands to clap too. We walked around a little bit and then headed to the MAC for Barney.
Handsome was so excited to see this up close:
UNTIL he realized that he wasn't going to be allowed on stage with Barney. This is Jeber holding him back from running up on stage:
We walked around a little bit more after Barney, shared a shaved ice, and then walked back to our hotel.
We invited grandma and grandpa to come watch the fireworks with us. They were right outside our 9th story window---it was a really good view. Handsome didn't stay interested for long and wanted to play with "pa".
We got two doubles so handsome got to sleep with momma and Jeber got a bed to himself. And that pretty much wrapped up our June.
